Legendary Australian jazz trumpeter Phil Slater returns to his hometown of Wollongong with his critically acclaimed quintet.  The National Jazz Award winner, multiple Bell Award winner (Australian Jazz Artist of the Year and Best Contemporary Jazz Ensemble), Freedman Fellowship recipient and the Limelight Award winner for Outstanding Contribution to Australian Jazz is widely regarded as one of the nations best trumpeters. He is the leader or co-leader of many of Australia's premiere jazz ensembles and has performed and recorded with Mike Nock, Archie Roach, Missy Higgins, Sandy Evans, Bernie McGann, Jonathan Zwartz, Lou Reed, Katie Noonan, Paul Grabowsky, Peter Sculthorpe, Vince Jones, DIG and many others. Currently a Lecture in Jazz and Improvisation Studies at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, Slater will bring his eponymous quintet featuring an all star line-up of fellow award winning musicians to the intimate Wollongong Con Auditorium.
