Music and theatre combined with expressive and emotional power
New York-based, Australian musician, the “warm and wonderful Lisa Moore” (TimeOut NY), returns to Wollongong for the first time since the ‘90s. She will perform a collection of songs, rags and new piano music, linking and connecting works within her playbook – from Philip Glass, David Lang, and Leoš Janáček to Randy Newman, Martin Bresnick, Missy Mazzoli, and Elena Kats-Chernin.
Given a blend of commentary and music, journeying through natural imagery and human souls – the mist, the Dalai Lama, and Ishi’s healing song – the audience experiences a type of ‘totalist’ life journey, glimpsed through the fullness of unique works and the musical expression of beauty, feeling, color and drama.
Crowned “New York’s queen of avant-garde piano” and “visionary” in The New Yorker, Lisa Moore’s performances combine music and theatre with expressive and emotional power. She has released 10 solo and over 30 collaborative albums (record labels include Tall Poppies, Cantaloupe, Sony Classical, Harmonia Mundi, OMM).
Working with over 200 composers, from Philip Glass to Meredith Monk, this Canberra-born performer has collaborated with a diverse range of artists including the London Sinfonietta, Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center, Sydney Symphony, New York City Ballet, Steve Reich Ensemble, Ensemble Signal, and the Australian Chamber Orchestra.
Lisa toured the globe for 16 years as the founding pianist for the award winning electro-acoustic sextet The Bang On A Can All-Stars. She has performed in festivals worldwide, including Adelaide, Warsaw, BAM Next Wave, Big Ears and Tanglewood, and on the stages of the Royal Albert Hall, La Scala, Carnegie Hall, and the Musikverein.
