Internationally renowned bassist, Rodney Whitaker, currently holds the titles of Professor of Jazz Bass and Director of Jazz Studies at Michigan State University where he has built one of the leading jazz degree programs and performing faculties in the United States of America. Whitaker has earned an international reputation as one of the world’s finest jazz double bassist. He completed a seven-year tenure as bassist with Wynton Marsalis’ Septet and the Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra and has toured the world over the last twenty-five years, collaborating and performing with legendary jazz artists past and present such as Dizzy Gelispie, Mulgrew Miller, Tommy Flanagan, Joe Henderson, Hank Jones, Benny Golson, Pat Matheny, Jimmy Cobb, Joshua Redman, Chick Corea, Kenny Garrett, Cedar Walton, Randy Brecker, Branford Marsalis and countless more. For this intimate concert at the Wollongong Con, Whitaker will be joined by Australian jazz icons Andrew Dickeson, Mat Jodrel (National Jazz Award Winner) and John Harkins.
