Bite-sized, fun and up-beat works to welcome in the dusk.
An intimate trio program presented by Ensemble Offspring brings together an array of original chamber works by Australian composers as breathtaking as the tail of a lyrebird.
On flute, clarinet and percussion, with sounds both familiar and intriguing – butcherbirds, blackbirds, leafcutter ants and frogs – the audience will be taken on a musical journey out of their everyday lives. All the works were written especially for the artists of Ensemble Offspring in close collaboration with the composers. Their common theme is birdsong and the weird and wonderful squeaks, croaks and creaks of the Australian bush.
New music has no greater champion than Ensemble Offspring. A devotion to fearless music making has seen the group premiere over two hundred works over the course of over 23 years. Led by acclaimed percussionist Claire Edwardes, this special Birdsong trio also includes much loved flautist Lamorna Nightingale and Jason Noble on clarinets.
Ensemble Offspring features some of Australia’s most innovative performers, and in 2016 won the APRA/AMCOS Art Music Award for Excellence by an Organisation for their 20 year contribution to the industry. The group has toured to Hong Kong, London and Warsaw, are regularly featured at MONA FOMA, Sydney and Melbourne Festivals, and have a cult following at their Sizzle series at Petersham Bowling Club. In 2019 they will present a showcase at Classical Next in Rotterdam, ensemble in residence at Gaudeamus Festival and perform in Berlin, Amsterdam, and Scotland.
