Nigel Edwards: Woodwind Co-ordinator (oboe, clarinet, saxophone & bassoon)

Nigel Edwards is a Graduate of the Royal Northern College of Music (Manchester) and Licentiate of the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. He has performed with the Manchester Camerata, B.B.C. Northern Symphony and Scottish Ballet Orchestras as a bassoonist.

Nigel has taught at Wollongong Conservatorium of Music for over 15 years and in addition to his responsibilities as Head of Woodwind, he is the conductor of the BlueScope Steel Youth Orchestra.

 
Lucie Benz (flute)

Lucie Benz has a Masters degree in Music performance from the Elder Conservatorium, Adelaide University and a Soloist's Diploma from the Staatliche Hochschule fur Musik und Darstellende Kunst, Mannheim, Germany. She has played with the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra, the Sudwestrundfunk Orchestra and as a soloist with the Kammerensemble Cologne on tours of France, Germany, Switzerland and Australia.

Lucie has been teaching, both in Australia and overseas for 15 years and joined the Wollongong Conservatorium staff in 2009.

 
Suzanne Cowan (flute)

Suzanne has a Bachelor of Music degree from the Sydney Conservatorium of Music and an A.Mus.A on flute. She has studied with Thomas Pinschoff and Paul Edmund-Davies. She is a former member of and soloist with the SBS Youth Orchestra and the Australian Wind Orchestra.

In addition to her teaching at the Conservatorium she teaches flute at The Illawarra Grammar School and Bulli High School and coordinates the Conservatorium’s flute ensemble program.

 
Danielle O’Keeffe (clarinet & saxophone)

Danielle has taught at the Conservatorium for over 15 years. She holds a Diploma of Music (studio teaching) from the Australian Institute of Music.

In addition to her work at the Conservatorium Danielle teaches clarinet and saxophone in local schools and directs a number of school bands.

 
Jeremy Rose (saxophone)

Jeremy Rose holds a Bachelor of Music with Honours from the Sydney Conservatorium. His diverse musical interests are reflected in the variety of bands that he leads and writes for. One of them, The Vampires, have recently released their first CD ‘South Coasting’ to critical acclaim, a unique blend of jazz and reggae. Other musical projects include The Jeremy Rose Quartet, afro-beat reggae group The Strides, a Norwegian/Australian collaboration in the group Chiba, as well as working with legendary jazz pianist Judy Bailey.

He has recently become a cofounding member of the saxophone quartet, Compass, and has an upcoming release featuring commissioned tango music with piano accordianist Marcello Maio and guitarist Julian Curwin from Monsieur Camembert. Jeremy has recently performed in Tokyo, London and Oslo. He has performed for ABC Classic FM’s Sunday Live program and was the 2008 recipient of the BBM scholarship to study in London. In August 2008 Jeremy attended the School for Improvisation in Brooklyn, New York. On 23rd April 2009 Jeremy was announced as the 2009 Young Australian Jazz Artist of the Year.

 
Rhiannon Sharp (clarinet & saxophone)

Rhiannon holds a Bachelor of Music/Bachelor of Education from UNSW. She has been teaching clarinet and saxophone since 1999, conducted the Loftus Primary School Band in 2004, and the Stage Band and Orchestra at St Mary Star of the Sea College from 2005-2007 where she was also teaching classroom music.

She is currently responsible for the Music department at Woonona High School where she teaches full time music from year 7-11. She also directs the band and vocal group. Past students of Rhiannon’s have gone on to study music and music education at university, as well as receiving Band 6 results in HSC music.

Rhiannon has toured interstate with the Southern Schools Performing Ensemble and BHP Youth Orchestra and played clarinet and bass clarinet with the UNSW Orchestra for four years.

 
Ralph Wilkinson (clarinet & saxophone)

Ralph Wilkinson is an experienced teacher who holds a Diploma in Music Education from the New South Wales Conservatorium of Music. He has extensive experience as a high school music teacher and is a member of the NSW Teachers Federation.

Ralph has taught at the Conservatorium for over 25 years and is also employed as a senior teacher at a local high school.
