Youth Choir

Friday 4.30-5.30

Who is it for?
Students aged between 7 and 14 years old.

When will it happen?
Fridays 5.30-6.30 at the Conservatorium

Who will run it?
Jennifer Turnbull. Jennifer is a professional opera singer and an experienced music teacher, and will lead the choir.

What will I learn?
Vocal technique, musicianship, ensemble skills and contemporary and traditional repertoire

What will the choir do?
The choir will perform at least once a semester
It will perform in community events such as Viva La Gong
It will participate in workshops with top choral specialists

How do I join?
Simply complete the enrolment form online.

What does it cost?
$140 per 9-week term, this fee includes all other Conservatorium ensembles as well as free Music Theory and Aural         Musicianship classes.

Sing for Fun Choir (includes adult singers)

Tuesday 6.30-8.00

A social choir, where no singing experience is needed, just a love of music and a desire to sing! Rehearsals include sessions on vocal technique and choral rehearsal. For all ages, including adults.

 

Wollongong Conservatorium of Music Choir (includes adult singers)

Thursday 7.30-9.00

For experienced singers, this choir will tackle more complex repertoire. Entry is by audition / recommendation only.

These choirs are part of a performance program that includes at least one public concert per term, as well as opportunities to perform in a variety of events including festivals, eisteddfods and performances with other ensembles.

All choirs offer coaching in

  • Intonation
  • Music reading
  • Ear training
  • Vocal production
  • Singing in ensemble
  • Performance practice

Choirs study repertoire appropriate to the vocal and musical level of the group.


Music Theatre Program

The perfect artistic combination program for singers who want to act, actors who want to sing, and dancers who want to sing.....

The course includes a focus on:

  • Characterisation and creating convincing scenarios
  • Vocal style for music theatre
  • Movement and acting skills
  • Ensemble skills
  • Professional music theatre practice
  • Audition technique

Each student will perform a solo and be coached in ensemble performances, including singing and movement skills. There will be a showing of students work on the final session of the course for invited guests.

We offer two courses, the tutor for this both is Greg Shand; an experienced music theatre professional with international experience in lead and ensemble roles in the West End of London, Australia and Europe.

 

Ensemble Music Theatre 1

Aimed at students from 13-16, this course runs for 8 weeks per term on Saturdays from 12 - 3.

Ensemble Music Theatre 2

Aimed at students who are 17 and over, this course runs for 12 weeks, twice a year, in line with university semesters. This course also runs on Saturdays from 3.30-5.30
