Wollongong's Australia Day Awards have been announced and Tanya Phillips, manager of the Bluescope Steel Youth Orchestra, has been awarded the Cultural Award.
Wollongong Conservatorium of Music is thrilled at the news that Tanya has won this prestigious award. It is timely recognition of her tireless work behind the scenes to make sure that the orchestra remains at its high standards, not only musically but in its presentation and organisation.
There is a huge amount of work in running and orchestra, most of which is undertaken in Tanya’s spare time. 2011 is the 25th anniversary of the orchestra’s sponsorship from BlueScope Steel, the longest running arts sponsorship in Australia, and Tanya is one of the main reasons the company continues to support the orchestra in this way.
Wollongong Conservatorium would also like to congratulate the other Australia Day nominees and winners for their contribution to the local community.
- Andrew Snell, CEO, Wollongong Conservatorium of Music
